Milan! My powertower.

I'm an old Atarifan trying to live by their slogan, "Power without the price". But my computing days started with a Zinclair ZX Spectrum.
Then when the Atari 520ST came out, the fun started. The first one was with english TOS, the second was when the swedish TOS came, early -87? A couple of years later it was time to upgrade to a 1040 STE. Faster serialport, 4MB ram and 500MB harddisk made it a little more fun to use.
In the mid 90's, the Internet started booming, and although using a STE for it was quite a thrill to start with, I soon felt the need for more colours, more memory and more punch.
Since i wanted to stay with TOS, there were really only two options, a Milan or a Hades. Since the Hades cost almost three times as much, the choice was easy. Better go get myself a a Milan!

I bought it in december -98 from Indigo 2 in Denmark. It's built around the processor Motorola MC 68040 and uses PCI-slots for sound, graphics and SCSI cards. More on the hardware here.
It was delivered with NAES, a GEM shell for MINT. More on the software here.

I had to wait a month before it arrived, but that was partly because I ordered a design-tower and partly because the demand was higher than the availability.
When it finally arrived, it was just a question of plug-n-play, everything was installed and ready to run. I was pretty amazed with the colours, the multitasking and the speed compared to the STE.
It has worked almost flawlessly, except for the powercord to the fan, that got disconnected causing the processor to overheat, but the support was good and almost immidietly told me to check the fan. But I really must say that I've been very pleased with it, so much that I'm gonna get a Milan II when they arrive.
